You Are The Potter

You are the Potter.

I am the clay.

As handcrafted creation

I’ve no right to say

“Why hast thou made me thus?”

It’s not open for us to discuss.

You are the Potter.

I am the clay.

On your spinning wheel

teach me to stay.

Let  your hands shape me in the right direction,

yielding to  pressure

that works out imperfection.

You are the Potter.

I am the clay.

Perhaps I’m not exquisite

and put on display.

Let me be content

just by You to be used

in the exact manner

that You wisely choose.

You are the Potter.

I am the clay.

If you see part of me

that’s in disarray

to you I make this earnest appeal

although it may hurt, put me back on the wheel.

You are the Potter.

I am the clay.

You know what’s best.

Dear Lord, have Your way.

In your mercy and patience

cease not to work on me

till I’m fit for a God filled eternity.

“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” Isaiah 64:8

“Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.” Jeremiah 18:3,4

“Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?” Romans 9:20,21

A Better Country

I seek a better country
that is, an heavenly
where sweet peace and righteousness
shall reign eternally.

I seek a better country
a hallowed, celestial sod
where Jesus only does rule
revered by all as God.

I seek a better country
where never is shed one tear
pain and suffering unknown
for sin can’t enter there.

I seek a better country
of its splendors I have heard
prepared by the Savior returning
for those who obey His Word.

I seek a better country
where the forever fashion will be
putting off this veil of flesh
to dress in immortality.

I must enter into that country
whatever sacrifice I must make
for only then will my soul be satisfied
when in His likeness I awake.

“But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:16

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” I Corinthians 15:52,53

“As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.” Psalm 17:15

God Is Faithful!

As a new convert to Acts 2:38 salvation at the age of 16, I remember hearing various saints in the church testify about how they had been living for God for 20, 30 or even 40 years. This was amazing to me, because I really felt so weak and pitiful in my fledgling walk with God. “What a pillar of strength they are!” I thought to myself. In my heart, I hoped that one day I would be able to have a testimony like theirs.

On June 16, 2019,  I was blessed to be able to celebrate my 40 year anniversary of being baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. My perspective has certainly changed from the one I had as a teenager. I realize now that none of the people I heard testify about living for God many years were pillars of strength. God is the pillar of strength, and without His faithfulness and steadfastness, we would not be able to live for Him.

As I reflected on my relationship with God, I could see that there were many times when

my attitude was wrong

my thinking was messed up

I wasn’t focusing on the right things

I was half-hearted in serving God.

But God was faithful to

put preachers in my life to tell me what I needed to hear

let me hear preaching or teaching from the Word of God, so I could see myself

convict me when I was wrong

forgive me when I came to Him in true repentance.

As I thought about my 40 year journey with the Lord, the words of a chorus came to my mind.

He’s been faithful, faithful to me.

Looking back, His love and mercy I see.

Though at times I have questioned,

even failed to believe,

yet He’s been faithful, faithful to me!

I am so thankful today for God’s great faithfulness, and I’m trusting that  His faithfulness coupled with my obedience to His Word will carry me to the day when I shall behold Him face to face.

Lamentations 3:22,23  “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Psalm 17:15  “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness”.

Who Is Waiting On Who?

…Go shew yourselves unto the priests… Luke 17:14.

Who Is Waiting On Who

“Go and shew yourselves unto the priests.”

Perhaps these were words they expected the least.

Why didn’t Jesus say , “I pronounce you healed.”?

Could it be there was truth He wanted revealed?

These lepers were cleansed as to the priest they went.

Their obedience preceded the miracle that was sent.

Many times we can feel like we’re waiting on God.

Could He be waiting on you? Don’t think it odd

that faith on our part does require action

to see our prayer answered and have satisfaction.

What is it that God, of you would require?

Will you willingly obey that you might acquire

the thing for which your soul doth hath need?

Exercise your faith by performing the deed.

There is victory ahead, a miracle in the making

if your obedience is the first step you’re taking.

Luke 17:11-14  And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

Give Us The Facts From The Book Of Acts

Just imagine you could bring a Bible character back to this earth for a season. Who do you think you would choose? I chose Peter, and here is why.

another Acts 2 38

Peter, it’s such a blessing to have you back on earth
because our world is confused when it comes to the second birth.
Jesus gave you the keys. You’re the man who has the facts.
Please dispel all fake gospel news by taking us back to the book of Acts.
Show us that you never said to accept the Lord as our Savior.
You never preached or taught that that is how we find God’s favor.
You taught that Jesus died, the cross was His death sentence,
and we to sin, must also die, through the way of repentance.
After His awful death to a borrowed grave He was carried.
We identify with this, when in Jesus’ name baptism we’re buried.
Three days later Jesus resurrected after He had been killed.
We rise up to walk in the newness of life, when with His Spirit we’re filled.
The evidence of this infilling in God’s Word is clearly shown.
When His Spirit takes up residence, we’ll speak in a tongue unknown.
Yes, take us back in time, please, Peter, to the day of Pentecost,
when you preached that inaugural message to a multitude so lost.
So many believe in doctrines today that have totally been perverted.*
Let us read and heed God’s original plan, that we might be converted.

*perverted=changed

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:15-19

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.” Acts 2:36-39

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:6-8

Parable Of The Talents

Five talents Phil was a very gifted man.

Compelling truth in his oratory was heard.

There was no doubt in any that he was

proficient and anointed in teaching God’s Word.

To many, he showed the way of salvation

just as Peter preached in Acts 2 and 38

and though multitudes rejected the message of truth

there were some redeemed from a damnable fate.

Two talents Tessie was an average young lady

although not brainy, she had a great heart.

She searched out ways to help the needy

and in doing thus, God’s love did impart.

Her selfless acts of kindness and care

aided those helped to open their spirit

that otherwise would be closed to God’s plan

now their ears were susceptible, so they could hear it.

One talent Winston was a fainthearted fellow

although he had obeyed the plan of salvation.

He was content to keep his mouth shut

and not offer to any escape from damnation.

He thought, “I could never win a soul to truth.”

Love for God was trumped by fear of rejection

so he never reached out to neighbors or friends,

thinking it would be his protection.

And so the time of reckoning came

for these three who had passed away

each in turn had to stand before God

to give account on the judgment day.

Five talents Phil came and  stood before God

and for him, there was nothing but praise

for the work he had done, the souls he had won

during his earthly days.

Two talents Tessie was next to approach.

God’s response to her made her glad.

Although not the brightest of the bunch

she did her best with the talents she had.

As one talent Winston drew near to the Lord

His head was hung down in shame.

For somehow he knew instinctively

his reward would not be the same.

Slowly he began to offer excuse

of why doing God’s work was denied,

how he thought that none would believe him

why his light he chose to hide.

God said, “When I filled you with my Holy Spirit,

I gave you just what you would need

to impact your world with the gospel

yet My words, you chose not to heed.

And so the plight of one talent Winston

who made excuse and believed not

cast into a place of great torment

that eternally does burn hot.

A lesson we learn from this parable

if we’re so inclined to hear

let the wise in heart apply it

with a godly and reverent fear.

Whatsoever He Saith

stone jars

Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

These words of Mary to servants were spoken.

Their obedience to Jesus would be the token

of a miracle. They were about to view it.

Jesus told them, the waterpots to fill.

Perhaps this seemed a strange request,

but their compliance would soon be blessed

with water turned to wine. What a thrill!

What is it that the Master asks of you?

Does it by chance to you seem odd?

Please remember that obeying God

is always the right thing to do.

I’m convinced more miracles we would see

if when God speaks to us through His Word

we would become doers of what we’ve heard.

It’s the sure path to victory.

9/6/18

“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.  When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” John 2:5-11

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22

Confession And Prayer Of One Derelict In Duty

woman interceding

Lord, I come before you with confession.

My prayers of late have been a little cold.

They ‘re sounding  like a jumbled mumbling session,

not pleas of interceding saints of old.

Often, do I ask for daily bread,

help to face the pressures of this life,

neglecting in strong wrestling to be lead

for those who still are lost in sin and strife.

So let my heart be broken once again

with the weighty things that break the heart of God

the perishing, precious souls of unredeemed men

who upon this earth do everywhere  trod.

Your loving burden, pour into my spirit

as Your blessed face I humbly seek.

Anoint me, that your word I’ll take and share it.

With boldness, may I go and stand and speak.

Seven Failures of the Modern Church

I thought this was a worthy subject of a poem, and it is based on the incredible teaching we heard last year from my pastor/husband.

church-851136_960_720

  1. Preaching of a Crossless Christianity

A  Christianity without a cross

is preached across some pulpits of our day.

Sacrifice of Calvary is but dross.

From the blood of Jesus we have turned away.

A social gospel many do purport.

Your own good works, yes they can do the job.

But preaching of this self-sufficient sort,

the message of Golgotha, it does rob.

Some focus on the loaves and the fishes,

the miracles and feelie goodie things.

Heaven we’ll achieve through our good wishes,

but man can’t rise by his own apron strings.

Preaching that’s crossless, God will not anoint.

Powerless it is and misses the point.

  1. Preaching A No Change Christianity

Powerless it is and misses the point,

such doctrine not requiring us to change.

The purpose of God, it does disappoint;

concept in Scripture unknown and quite strange.

Jesus came to save us from each dark sin

through His blood and the power of His name.

Soul that embraces this truth should begin

to see that he need not remain the same.

Old things passed away, all things are made new

when thru water, Spirit we’re born again.

This teaching is not conveyed to the pew.

Many go on as carnal, unchanged men.

Such discourse espousing no about face,

it leaves a man in a state of disgrace.

  1. Preaching of a No Commitment Christianity

It leaves a man in a state of disgrace

when it’s not proclaimed, our need to commit.

‘Tis a fickle love, like smoke in God’s face,

spineless profession that has no true grit.

Like customers before a smorgasbord

that exercise their right to choose;

some have this disposition toward the Lord.

Take it, leave it attitude is bad news.

There’s a definite lack in preaching now

coming down from the pulpit to the pew

of importance in making holy vows,

but it is something we all need to do.

When committing to God there is a lack,

we don’t move forward. Our soul does draw back.

  1. Preaching of a No Compliance Christianity

We don’t move forward. Our soul does draw back

when to Scripture’s tenets we don’t adhere.

We’re like a train that is on the wrong track.

The derailment of our lives is near.

If to worldly practices we’re conformed;

do like everyone and try to fit in.

In our minds renewing, we’re not transformed;

know that we are on the pathway of sin.

God’s Word calls people to separation

of the things that are grievous in His sight.

If in this we do come to reparation,

our willful compliance brings Him delight.

Preaching void of devotion is hollow.

It is not the course we want to follow.

  1. Preaching of a No Cause Christianity

It is not the course we want to follow,

religion with no lofty, noble goal;

in self-indulgent luxury wallow,

our sinful appetites out of control.

We’re not our own, and with a price we’re bought.

However, seldom is it preached, this cause.

Surrender of ourselves, this truth not taught,

and many do not stop and give it pause.

A common goal, eat, drink and be merry

in our society does permeate.

Epicurean stance does not carry

Bible truth, nor does it hold any weight.

A limp and causeless Christianity,

it’s nothing short of hum drum vanity.

  1. Preaching of a No Covenant Christianity

It’s nothing short of hum drum vanity.

A no agreement type relationship

though practiced much among humanity,

for bond ‘tween God and man, it is not hip.

Two can’t walk together unless agreed.

On God’s terms is the way we must advance.

To try and make our will to supersede

is nothing more than a song and a dance.

So blessed indeed the contract that does bind

the will of creature, Creator in one.

A good end result for sure we will find.

The purpose of God, thru man can be done.

If covenant agreement is not preached

God’s desire for man will not be reached.

  1. Preaching of a No Consecration Christianity

God’s desire for man will not be reached

lest we give ourselves to consecration.

Our sacred affinity will be breached

without a whole hearted dedication.

Faithfully, daily laboring in prayer

if this Christian race we do want to win.

‘Tis a sign to God that we truly care,

paves the way for more lost sheep to come in.

Lackadaisical service will not do

in any form or on any level,

from those in the pulpit or those in the pew;

nothing short but a trick of the devil.

Hollowed, not hallowed, then we lose the toss

a Christianity without a cross.

The Remedy

Sin

enslaves

grips the soul

like heavy chains

but Jesus can loose the binding shackles

if we will choose to obey the gospel

God’s Holy Word

when applied

makes us

free!

Acts 2:37,38  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 6:17,18  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Hebrews 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
