A Timeless Poem For Children

A few years ago when the kids were little, I made up a tune to this poem. I went around singing it until the kids had it memorized. Just for fun, I started humming the tune at the breakfast table, and my daughter immediately started singing the words.(Yeah! She still knows it.) It’s a nice little poem with a simple message.

Let dogs delight to bark and bite,
          For God hath made them so;
        Let bears and lions growl and fight,
          For ’tis their nature too.

        But, children, you should never let
          Such angry passions rise;
        Your little hands were never made
          To tear each other’s eyes.
