This past week, beginning on Wednesday, I was privileged to be able to attend West Coast Conference in Fresno, California with my family. It was our 3rd year to go to this conference, and I can say without a doubt, that this year was the best! I must admit that on the way there, it felt like a dark cloud was hanging over me as I thought about outcomes of the election the day before. However, I’m thankful that that didn’t last long, and God helped me to get my focus back on His kingdom and the things that are really important in the light of eternity. The preaching! Oh my, my, my!! It was glorious!!!! Honestly, I’ve been living for God for over 25 years now, and this was some of the best preaching I’ve ever heard. It’s so funny how you can have a man scream, spit, shout and sometimes look ridiculous as he expounds on the Bible and afterwards you find that you are once again renewed, encouraged, challenged and strengthened in your walk with God. Maybe that’s why the Scripture says,
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
I just looked up that word “foolishness” and it means silliness or absurdity. To the natural, carnal man, preaching can look pretty ridiculous, but oh what it can do for one who hungers and thirsts after God. Although we live in an age of compromise and tolerance, I’m glad that there are still men of God that are not afraid to call sin what it really is and will speak the truth in love. To close this post, I would just like to share a few Scriptures on the power of God’s Word, the Bible. I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I do know that I have an anchor for my soul in God’s Holy Word!
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
