In Hawaii!

On Thursday, our plane landed on the big island of Hawaii at approximately 11:20 a.m. Hawaiian Standard time.  So far, I would have to say that our time here has been absolutely glorious! We’ve done a lot already, and this is only our third day here. We’ve spent a good bit of time in Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park yesterday look at various old lava flows, craters and calderas.  Unfortunately, there are no current lava flows, but it could start up again at any time, so we can check to get any updated information.  Yesterday, we spent a few hours at the Botanical Gardens near Hilo.  It was spectacular, and both of us just took our time shooting pictures as we walked through this lush garden.  I’m going to share a few that my husband took.  Mine will be uploaded later.

A lovely pond inside the garden

delicate orchids

A very unique pink quill flower

pristine waterfalls

Forgot the name of this one, but it is stunning.

  1. The botanical gardens outside of Hilo are fantastic. We try to get to it whenever we’re over on that side.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hi Steve. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. I briefly stopped by your blog and it looks interesting. I’ve never been scuba diving, but I’m sure there is a lot of beauty there too as well as in the gardens.

  2. Your husband takes such beautiful pictures. Makes me want to go back. Last time we were there was one week after 9/11, and there were so many distractions. My niece’s husband is going to be helping Bro. Mallory so perhaps it will warrant another trip back.

Hi Karen. Were you on the big island when you were here? We looked into going to church on Sunday but couldn’t find a church here. My husband was here 14 years ago and preached at a church in Hilo, but it’s not there anymore.

  3. Wow… beautiful pictures!!! I so miss being there. Never been to the Big Island though. I lived in Oahu and visited Maui once. Glad you are having a blast!!

Hi Rochelle. The big island has been fabulous. We are flying out to Oahu tomorrow and will be there until the 16th when we return home.

  4. SO COOL!!!!! Great pictures too.

I saw a thing on TV last night about Volcanoes Nat’l Park. It looked SO COOL, but I wondered if the lava floes smelled really bad, like something burning, or like sulphur or something.

    Have a great rest-of-your-time!

Hi Jayleigh. There are some areas of the park where the smell of sulphur is pretty bad, and they have up warning signs to leave your windows up and stay in your car. Last night, we were about a mile and a half away from an erupting volcano, but the wind was not blowing our direction.

  5. CONGRATULATIONS! to two wonderful, deserving people. Love the pictures.

    …and love both of you…

Thank you, Sister Buxton. I don’t know if we deserve it, but we sure are enjoying it. 🙂
