Marriage Quotes

Because our 25th anniversary is coming up, I’ve been thinking a lot about marriage and wanted to share some quotes that I found. Hope you enjoy.

Getting a dog is like getting married. It teaches you to be less self-centered, to accept sudden, surprising outbursts of affection, and not to be upset by a few scratches on your car. Will Stanton

The goal in marriage is not to think alike, but to think together. Robert C. Dodds

To keep your marriage brimming,
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you’re wrong admit it;
Whenever you’re right shut up. Ogden Nash

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. Mignon McLaughlin

Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle. Amy Bloom

Marriage is not just spiritual communion, it is also remembering to take out the trash. Joyce Brothers

Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century. Mark Twain

Happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry. Tom Mullen

  1. Carol, You have some great quotes here. I like the one by Dodds and the one by Mullen. But I really like Ogden Nash. I recall a preacher saying, “In Jesus name, shut up” on several occasions. Makes a lot of sense in many instances.

    Helen, I’m sure a lot of arguments could be avoided if we all exercised the power to close our mouths. One of the hardest things to do is control that “little red devil behind the white pearly gates.”

  2. All of these are great quotes, but like Karen, I agree with Helen. We do need to learn when to “Shut Up!” But I also like what Joyce Brothers had to say. We also need to remember to take out the trash. Leave the past in the past. When you get into a new “discussion” with your spouse, don’t bring up past arguments and throw them in their face. Let the dead dogs lay.

    Enjoyed these Quotes!!! Have a WONDERFUL trip!
