Weekend In Delano

On Friday and Saturday, we were in Delano, Ca. for the first Bible quizzing tournament of the season.  I’m not going to tell you how we did there, but if you want a full report, you can go to Eva’s blog(her and her husband do all the coaching)and check it out.  One of the fringe benefits of going to this tournament was that it was held at the church of fellow minister’s wife and blogger friend Jana Allard.  Also, I was looking forward to meeting for the first time, my blogger friend Jolene, who also attends Jana’s church.  If you’ve ever read on Jolene’s blog before, you have probably picked up on her down to earth, sweet and sincere spirit.  I found her to be the same in person.  Friday night after quizzing our coaches and I and Jolene and her husband Joe went out for a bite to eat and enjoyed a time of good fellowship.  I was just wondering if anyone else out there who has made a friend through blogging has had an opportunity to actually meet and get acquainted with that person? It would be neat to hear of your experience.  Anyhow, I’m glad I had the chance to go to this tournament.  There was only one thing that could have made the tournament better, and that would have been Jana’s husband making his red velvet cake that Jana featured on her blog last month.  Of course, I am trying to lay off sweets, but I think I could have made an exception.  😆

  1. Awwwww…..if you would have mentioned the red cake earlier, I would have talked him in to making one. I’m so glad you were able to meet and visit with Jolene. She is a great lady.

I actually didn’t think about the red cake until I arrived home. Then for some unexplained reason, it popped into my mind. Probably sweet deprivation! LOL

  2. Sis Carol, I am glad you were able to come to Delano for I had the honor of meeting you in person. Not only did I get to meet you but I got to meet your son, daughter, Bible quizzing coaches and their family as well. My husband and I enjoyed the fellowship Friday night after the quizzing was over. It is wonderful to meet up with family face to face in the Lord.

I was very proud of your team and cheering for them just as much as you were. Wasn’t that last quiz a close one? Just about had me on the edge of my seat.

Yes, that last quiz was close………..enough to make you bite your nails.

  3. Good report! I read Sis. Eva’s blog. My kudos to the Oakley team (quizzers AND coaches AND parents). Keep up the good work. Glad too you were able to see/meet blog friends. Good benefit. Forget not all HIS BENEFITS. Do I hear an Amen? So sorry, though about the red velvet cakie. I too like red velvet cake, but perhaps there’ll be another time.

    Yes, perhaps another time. 😦

  4. Glad you had a great time in Delano and got meet blogging friends. 🙂 Sorry about the red cake. I don’t think any of us are going to get a piece of that unless we go to the Allard’s for Christmas. 🙂

  5. Congratulations to the quizzers and all who coached them. How awesome that you got to meet Jolene! Wish I could’ve been there too!

Last year at ladies’ retreat in Sacramento, I was privileged to meet 3 blogging buddies: Jana, Ronda and Tena. What a treat it was. There is a picture of some of us on my Feb ’07 post.

That red velvet cake sounds scrumptious, especially since I have not had any chocolate, candy, cookies or cake since 12/31/07. I’m having withdrawals!

    Love ya,

  6. Hi Carol, I haven’t met any of the bloggers yet, but I hope to meet Holly Hockett (Hockamama) soon and Jana Allard next December, if she’s in Charlotte then. Had I known a bit sooner, we’d have gone to the church where Brian was preaching this year. It will happen.
