Gotta Love That Boy

I started using a new vocabulary curriculum with my son this year to introduce him to some new words.  Earlier today, I told him his new word was “serpentine.”  “What do you think that means?”, I asked.  His reply?

“Um, Ovaltine for snakes?”

Gotta love that boy!

  1. Hi there,
I linked to you from a comment you wrote on Sis. Buxton’s blog. I just have to say, I love your son’s definition of serpentine! I’m an English professor, and I don’t get thoughtful replies like that from most of my college students. I also love to cook, eat, and scrap. I’ll be stopping by periodically.
    Rebecca

Hi Rebecca. I’m glad you liked the definition. My son came up with that on the spur of the moment, and I thought it was quite comical. Sounds like you like a lot of the same things that I like. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Mom & I laughed at Paul’s definition. Paul wasn’t too far off as far as “serpent” goes. The Ovaltine might’ve been a little far-fetched. HAW! I always think of Lombard street in San Francisco as being serpentine. Did I use that word right? Now mom is thinking of Ovaltine. We’re going to have to run right out to the store to get some.

Yes Tom, you used the word right. It can also be used to describe someone who is sly and crafty. Y’all run right over to Raley’s and get you some Ovaltine. LOL

  3. Love that boy! Love his sense of humor and creative thinking! Give him a hug from his Aunt Kiki. Looks like there’s several definitions for serpentine. Which one did you give him?

There are 2 definitions that I gave him. The first one refers to something that has twists and turns. You could say that the Nile River is rather serpentine in the way that it flows. The second one refers to being sly and crafty. (The devil(that old serpent) is known for his serpentine manner.)

  4. I found your blog through sis.Buxton’ blog. I have never had ovaltine I should it. Great tidbit.

    Hello Angela,

I don’t drink Ovaltine much anymore, because I don’t seem to digest milk too well, but I really enjoyed it as a kid. You can probably find it at just about any grocery store. Let me know if you try it. Thanks for stopping by.
