True Treasure

treasure chest

Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

They smile, make jokes

And drift with the tide,

But really I know

That they’re empty inside

If only the would seek

After heavenly treasure

Instead of being satisfied

With this old world’s pleasure

The Father up in Heaven

All their emptiness would fill

He’s waiting very patiently

For whomsoever will

Some in their lustful greed

Store corruptible gold

While others lay up treasures in Heaven

The wealth of which cannot be told

And the old saying is true

As ye sow, so shall ye reap

Treasures on earth shall perish

None of them we can keep

But prayers and sacrifices

That reach the throne of grace

The word can’t take them away

And with time they never efface

So seek the face of God

‘til His love you’ve finally found

He’ll take away all your shattered dreams

Peace and joy will abound

Then when that day of judgment comes

Not a shadow, not a sigh

As you stand before God

You’ll be able to say

A rich man, Lord, am I.

This is a poem I wrote as a newly born again teenager in highschool.  As I was thinking about what to teach for our next youth Bible study, the subject of “treasure” came to mind, and I remembered what I had written so long ago.  It still holds true today.  The greatest treasure in the world can still be found in Jesus Christ!

  1. Wonderful, Carol. It’s so very true, too. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

I see you commented on my Pastor’s wife’s blog about her daughter, Danelle, getting married tonight. I’m the wedding coordinator and I would appreciate it if you sent up a little prayer that things go perfectly tonight. The wedding starts at 7:00. Thanks! And God bless you! 😀
