If I Were A Rich Man

fiddler on the roof

Every so often, we need a diversion from the cares of this life and just plain ordinary living. Saturday is a day I’ve been looking forward to, because I will be experiencing just such a diversion.  My family and I, along with my dear mother and our good friends the Kerr’s and their two granddaughters will be going to see the play Fiddler On The Roof.  The last time I went and saw a play like this was B.C.(before children).  One of my favorite songs from this musical is If I Were A Rich Man.  Of course, I’m not a man, but I did find out today that I am a richer girl than I thought I was.  My daughter put in my URL on that little button on Shirley Buxton’s blog that says, “How much is your blog worth?”  When she told me there was an actual dollar amount mentioned, I thought she was pulling my leg, but low and behold, according to whoever figures out how much your blog is worth, mine is worth something now!  Think I should cash in on it?  🙂

All kidding aside though, I really am a rich girl, spiritually speaking that is.

2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Eph 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

What a blessing that Jesus laid down His life, so that not only I, but whosoever will trust in Him and follow Him according to His Word can be rich in His grace and mercy!  So tomorrow, while Tevya is singing If I Were A Rich Man, I’ll know in my heart that whether or not I make a fortune in this world, I’ve found the riches that really count.

  2. I saw Fiddler when I was a teenager. Leonard Nimoy was Tevya, and since I have always followed Star Trek, I really appreciated that. In fact, I still have the program. I think my favorite songs have changed over the years. I think my favorite songs have changed over the years. I used to like “Do You Love Me?,” but now “Sunrise, Sunset” speaks more to me.

Your blog makes it evident that you are laying up your treasures in the right place. It is a pleasure to read.

  3. I love reading your blog, too, Carol. It’s the day to day things that matter, because that’s where we live out what we say we believe. I love how you and Jen kid gently in public. That shows real love. All that said, I don’t care what the value is, your blog’s worth nothing without a buyer. And I’m not buying it. 🙂

  4. Miss Lion Heart, Becky and Helen,

You all have touched my heart this morning with your kind comments. This blog is absolutely worthless to me if it doesn’t encourge someone, put a smile on someone’s face that is going through a hard time, make people consider their choices in life and ultimately point people to the great God that I love so much. That’s what it’s really all about.

Hope all of you have a great day.

    Carol

  5. I remember my Dad used to sing “If I were a rich man…..” Myself and three younger brothers would singalong to the “Biddy biddy bum!!” I secretly didn’t like Dad singing it because he was a big tall man and at 5 years of age it was pretty daunting!…
If you send your e-mail address to clareboyce@eircom.net, I’ll send you some things for you to use on your blog. Then please delete it from here.
    Have a beautiful Sunday!

  6. Lynn-a-tevka,

Excellent! Glad you got to see this and dragged the mater and fambly along (no doubt kicking and screaming!) We had an album of Fiddler growing up in our one-room converted chicken coop closet, if memory serves me correctly. No doubt when we sang along with “If I Were a Rich Man,” it was with a much more literal interpretation. I’m glad we can still see our way past the bling to the true source of riches.
